(5) - There must be some sort of connection between faithfulness and truth. Zechariah is quoting God and says that Jerusalem will be called the "City of Truth ([[H0571]])." {2} - The second occurrence is in verse 16. Again, Zechariah is quoting God. However, I didn't provide any more justification for my statement - I fully acknowledge that it is likely Pilate thought he was just being sarcastic. But I think it is also possible he was speaking prophetically somewhat like Caiaphas in John 11.49-52. - Despite Pilate's failure to ultimately act on truth, I think he really was attempting to discern the truth about the charges brought against Jesus - According to John, after Pilate asked, "What is truth?" he pronounced to the Jews, "I find no basis for a charge against Him." - If his question was from God, then "so what?" #### 2026.08.31 {[[John_18_Notes|37-38]]} - Although there are good reasons to malign Pilate, his sarcastic question should not be one of them {38} - I think everyone should "belong to the truth" and be a "seeker of the truth" {37} - However, I think God gave a special assignment to a small subset of Christians. The Bible generally refers to this group as "prophet" - Other "titles" could include: - seeker of the truth - guardian of the truth - truth warrior" - I can't and shouldn't speak for any of the other 8+ billion people living today. That notwithstanding, I feel God telling me to be a guardian of the truth and / or a truth warrior. One role is defensive and the other is offensive. At this time, I am not sure on which, if not both He wants me to focus - Jesus said He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Since He is "the Truth," I need to seek Him everyday and I believe I should constantly ask the same question Pilate asked, "What is Truth?" {John 14.6, 38} #### 2017.10.31 ([[John_18_Notes|37-38]]) - Jesus said He came to testify to the truth {[[G0225]]} (37) - Then He said that everyone who belongs to the truth {[[G0225]]} listens to His voice (37) - Pilate responded with a sarcastic question, “What is truth {[[G0225]]}”?
