# Prophet vs Teacher
## Notes
- To some degree, it is difficult to discern the difference between a prophet and a teacher. This is particularly challenging as they relate to the APEST Paul discusses in **Ephesians 4.11-13**. {[[Ephesians_04|Ephesians 4.11-13]], [[Prophet]], [[Teacher]], [[APEST]]}
- I like the definition that good friend of mine, [[Name_Key#^nk-37|M]] uses in his discipleship: {[[Disciple]]}
- Prophet types:
- say, "thus says the Lord ..."
- feel they only have to say the truth once {[[Truth]]}
- the weight is on the listener to shama (listen and obey) {[[Shama_(Hebrew_Word)]], [[Listen]], [[Obey]]}
- Teachers tend to:
- desire understanding on the part of the listener {[[Understand]]}
- explain the truth in as many different ways as necessary
- Both are after the same result, shama (listen and obey). However, they approach communication in different ways
- My gifting:
- In a conversation with my wife about all this, she seems to think I am wired as a teacher. For example, if she asks me what time it is, I will attempt to explain how a watch is designed. I have to agree with her observation!
- Shama
- Regardless how any of us are wired / gifted / called / etc., we are all commanded to shama (listen and obey)
