# Mind (G1271) Study
## Background
- The new plan for the Great Commandment study is to do extensive word studies on each of the key words. Then, analyze, summarize and contextualize the data for the Great Commandment (GC) study.
## Questions
- What does it look like to love God with my mind?
## TL;DR
- Jesus' characterization of the Great Commandment is important:
- This is the first and greatest commandment {Matthew 22.38}
- "This is the most important" {Mark 12.29}
- No other commandment is greater than these. {Mark 12.31}
## Chapter-by-Chapter Notes
### Matthew 22

### Mark 12

- After reading the biblehub "cultural and Historical Background" info, I can speculate on why the scribe "changed" "mind" and "soul" to "understanding."
- "sunesis" (G4907) was:
- a highly valued as a trait of philosophers and wise individuals
- considered essential for making sound judgments and decisions
- seen as a gift from God
- integral to living according to His will
- needed to grasp the mysteries of the faith
- I am speculating that the scribe fancied himself as filled with "sunesis." So, why not change up the GC a little to fit his view of scripture!
2024.12.25 {28-32}
- Although Jesus included "soul" [[G5590]] and "mind" [[G1271]], the scribe changed them to "understanding" [[G4907]] when he repeated it back to Jesus {30, 33}
- I wonder, did Jesus assess the scribe's distance from the kingdom of God (you are not far) based on:
- the scribe's modification of the the Great Commandment?
- some other factor?
### Luke_01
2024.12.27 {51}
- In her "song", Mary connected "thoughts" ([[G1271]]) with 'heart' ([[G2588]]) {51}
### Luke_10
2024.12.27 {25-37}
- The Luke version is somewhat similar to the Mark version in that there was a conversation exchange {25-28}
- The verses containing the Great Commandment are the intro to "The Parable of the Good Samaritan". Consequently, I think most people, myself included don't notice the Great Commandment. {25-37}
- It seems the ?adverbs? in each of the versions is slightly different. See the summary table in the TL;DR section {27}
