# Like a Roaring Lion ## TL;DR - Satan is always the imitator, never the real thing - Both Paul and Peter emphasize "standing firm" in our resistance of the devil and his schemes ## Background - I have been studying Ephesians 6 for a while. (See [[Ephesians_06_Study]]) Although I started with verse 1, the main goal was to look at verses 10-20. So, this journal note is in the context of verses 10-20. - When I woke up this morning, before getting out of bed, I was thinking about stuff and this thought came to me. ## Notes - There are several reverences in the Bible about the Lion of Judah. - I think the first was **Genesis 49.9** when Jacob was prophesying about his 12 sons. - Judah is a young lion— my son, you return from the prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness, who dares to rouse him? - A specific reference to Jesus is **Revelation 5.5** - Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.” - On the other hand, there is a reference to the devil being "like" ([[G5613]]) a lion in **1 Peter 5.8** - Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - My initial thoughts had to do with the word "like." Satan is always the imitator, never the real thing - When I reread the verses, I see an additional thought that is germane. - In Ephesians 6, Paul emphasizes stand / stand your ground / stand firm - Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your ***stand*** against the devil’s schemes. {10} - Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to ***stand your ground***, and having done everything, to ***stand***. ***Stand firm*** then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, {13-14} - Peter said something very similar in **1 Peter 5.9** - Resist him, ***standing firm*** in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. - Both Paul and Peter emphasize "standing firm" in our resistance of the devil and his schemes
