# J-2016.10.26 - Practice Righteousness ## Notes 2024.09.11 - When I wrote the note below, I don't think I had access to the biblehub.com tools like I do today. - I'm not sure exactly to what part of **1 John 2.29** I was reacting, however I suspect it was the word translated "practices" in the BSB. I am guessing I was thinking about a person (me) who repeats something over and over (practice) in order to get it right. - However, the BSB word "practices" comes from [[G4160]] which means to make or to do. It occurs 572 times in the NT and the NASB only translated it into some form of "practice" 17 times or about 3% of the time. - I think John is communicating that we need "to do" righteousness. - The various other translations: - do what is right - NIV - practices - ESV, BSB, BLB, NASB, MSB, NET, WEB - doeth - KJB - does - LSB, CSB - doing - LSV - Regardless, we need to do or practice righteousness because Jesus is righteous and because we are born of Him. 2016.10.26 - I had a cool experience this morning. - I have been doing a study on Righteousness this last week. (I started it in May.) For the last couple of days, I have been pursuing the thirst aspect. This morning, I felt I should pursue a different aspect. I asked God where to start and felt led to the section with 1 John. When I got to **1 John 2.29**, I realized that: - This whole “hunger and thirst for righteousness” thing is all about the pursuit of it rather than the achievement of it. - This revelation is a game changer in this study. I will continue to do more to confirm this revelation. - However, I wanted to journal this to give glory to God for leading me to this revelation this morning!! - 777 - Thank you Lord! --- #### Outbound Links - Scripture - [[1_John_02]] - Studies - [[Righteousness_Study]] - Other Notes - Topics - [[Righteousness]] - Hebrew Words - Greek Words - [[G1343]] - [[G4160]]
