# Isaiah 55 - Eat Freely
2024.12.17
- I'm not sure I see what I saw 9+ years ago. Perhaps it is because I have better tools now.
- The second to the last phrase in this verse is more or less consistent -- "Eat what is good".
- However, the last phrase in the verse ... not so much.
- you will delight in the richest of fare - NIV
- You will enjoy the finest food - NLT
- delight yourselves in rich food - ESV
- your soul will delight in the richest of foods - BSB, MSB
- let your soul delight itself in fatness - KJV
- delight yourself in abundance - NASB
- delight your soul in richness - LSB
- you will enjoy the choicest of foods - CSB
- Enjoy fine food! - NET
- let your soul delight itself in richness (WEB)
- There seems to be three approaches to translating this phrase
- Command - ESV, NASB, LSB, NET
- An gift / offer from God of good stuff - KJV, WEB
- Prophetic result of an if-then - NIV, NLT, BSB, MSB, CSB

- In **Isaiah 55.2**, God again tells / commands the Israelites to eat freely.
- Why spend money on that which is not bread, and your labor on that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of foods. (Isaiah 55.2 (BSB))
- Compare this with **Genesis 2.16-17** where God tells Adam that he "may eat freely". This is similar to the "An gift / offer from God of good stuff" translation approach in **Isaiah 55.2**.
