# Isaiah 20 ## A Sign against Egypt and Cush 1 Before the year that the chief commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it, 2 the LORD had already spoken through Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, “[[H1980|Go]], [[H6605|remove]] ([[H6605a]]) [[H8242|the sackcloth]] [[H5921|from]] [[H4975|your waist]] [[H2502|and]] ([[H2502a]]) [[H5275|the sandals]] [[H7272|from your feet]].” [[H6213|And Isaiah did]] ([[H6213a]]) [[H3651|so]], [[H1980|walking around]] [[H6174|naked]] [[H3182|and barefoot]]. 3 [[H3068|Then the LORD]] said, “Just as [[H5650|My servant]] Isaiah [[H1980|has gone]] [[H6174|naked]] [[H3182|and barefoot]] [[H7969|for three]] [[H8141|years]] as a sign and omen against Egypt and Cush, {[[#^23-20-a|a]]} 4 so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, young and old alike, [[H6174|naked]] [[H3182|and barefoot]], [[H2834|with bared]] [[H8357|buttocks]] ([[H8351]]) — to Egypt’s [[H6172|shame]]. 5 Those who made Cush their hope and Egypt their boast will be dismayed [[H0954|and ashamed]]. 6 And on that day the dwellers of this coastland will say, ‘See what has happened to our source of hope, those to whom we fled for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’ ” --- ### Footnotes: - 3 a That is, the upper Nile region; similarly in **verses 4 and 5** ^23-20-a --- - Previous chapter: [[Isaiah_19]] - Next chapter: [[Isaiah_21]] - TOC: [[TOC_Isaiah]] --- The Holy Bible, Berean Standard Bible (https://bereanbible.com), BSB is produced in cooperation with Bible Hub (https://biblehub.com), Discovery Bible (https://discoverybible.com), OpenBible.com (https://openbible.com), and the Berean Bible Translation Committee.
