## Notes
All verse references are to **1 Corinthians 6** (BSB) unless otherwise noted
- Paul says the "wicked" won't inherit the king of God [9]
- Next, he lists off several sins that he seems to be using to describe the wicked. Included in this list are three that are sex related: sexually immoral, adulterers and homosexuals [9-11]
- Next, he says that that is what some of you were. But you washed, sanctified and justified in Jesus and by the Holy Spirit [11]
- The next paragraph he talks about how everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial and he didn't want to be mastered by anything. [12]
- He goes on to say that food is for the stomach, but the body is not intended for sexual immorality. [13]
- Sexual immorality isn't explicitly defined, however, the next paragraph talks about being united with a prostitute. So, it seems that Paul is connecting the two. [15-17]
- Since sex with a prostitute and homosexual sex are both done with another person, and masturbation is done solo, it would seem that it is excluded from Paul's discussion here. [9-20]
- Masturbation like food or anything else should be done in a way that glorifies God. We shouldn't be "mastered" by anything. [12, 20]
- Since Jesus repeatedly talked about sin was more than just the act, but included things in our hearts, it seems possible that fantasy thoughts about someone other than my wife during sex (intercourse or masturbation) would be considered sin. [9-20]
- The definition of the Greek words (G4205 & G4202) for sexual immoral in verses 9 & 13 respectively means fornicator to include a man who prostitutes himself. The words come from pernaō, "to sell off. [9 & 13]
### Word Study
- Verse 9 -- Do you not know that the wicked (G0094) will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral (G4205), nor idolaters, nor adulterers (G3432), nor men who submit to (G3120) or perform homosexual acts (G0733) ...
- Verse 12 -- “Everything is permissible (G1832) for me,” but not everything is beneficial (G4851). “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered (G1850) by anything.
- Verse 13 - -“Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality (G4202), but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
- Verse 15 -- Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
- Verse 18 -- Flee from (G5343) sexual immorality (G4202). Every other sin (G0265) a man can commit is outside his body (G4983) but he who sins sexually (G4203) sins (G0264) against his own body (G4983).
