## Notes
### 2026.05.31 {16-17}
- As far as I know, there is no scriptural basis for the statement that we are "born dead" as I mentioned in my note [[#2011.05.23 {16-17|2011.05.23 {16-17}]] below
### 2025.12.04 {7, 22}
- I don't agree with my conclusions in my note [[#2014.03.25 {7}]]. Specifically, I don't think these verses discuss one way or another the spirit aspects of our lives, i.e. the so-called bipartite vs tripartite
- The "breath of life" that God breathed into Adam could have been:
- The air we breathe today in and out of our lungs. If so, the "living being" aspect is "life" as the medical community describes
- The Holy Spirit. If so, then "life" in this view is spiritual life; a relationship with God
- God told Adam, "in the day that you eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you will surely die.” However, when Adam & Eve ate the fruit, their hearts continued to beat for many decades
- Just before God ejected Adam & Eve, He said to someone that they needed banish them from the garden and place a guard to prevent reentry so they wouldn't eat from the tree of life and "live forever." Based on the context alone, it isn't crystal clear if God is talking about physical "life" or "spiritual life." However, if my theology is correct (Biblical life is a relationship with God) then "life" in **verse 22** is physical life because they were already separated from God due to their rejection of Him and therefore "dead."
- Based on the analysis above, I would say the "breath of life" in **verse 7** refers to physical life, heart beats, etc. If this is correct, then it is possible (pure speculation) that the sequence of forming man from dirt, then breathing life into him was done by God to counter the unscientific crap called evolution.
### 2025.12.02 {25}
If Adam & Eve lived in the Garden naked for more than a day and a night, how is it that she didn't get pregnant?
### 2018.10.29 {25}
- I wonder a few things:
- How long did the man and his wife live in the garden together between **Genesis 2.25** and **Genesis 3.23-24**?
- If they lived in the Garden naked for more than a day and a night, then how did they keep warm at night? Even if the atmospheric temperature was “perfect” for sleeping, the human body temperature drops a little while sleeping. There is a good chance they would get chilled.
- Did they lay next to each other at night to stay warm? If so, did their bodies stick together?
### 2018.08.24 {16-17}
- What is the scriptural basis for the statement that we are "born dead" as I mentioned in my note [[#2011.05.23 {16-17|2011.05.23 {16-17}]] below?
- Until I find scriptural proof of the idea, I will no longer promote that theology.
### 2017.10.20 {2}
- Per **Genesis 1.26-27**, man was created on day 6. Day 7 was Adam’s first full day.
- God rested on day 7. Daddy took the day off to spend time with His new son, Adam.
### 2016.06.05 {21, 23}
- The NET note on the “rib” says:
- tn Traditionally translated “rib,” the Hebrew word actually means “side.” The Hebrew text reads, “and he took one from his sides,” which could be rendered “part of his sides.” That idea may fit better the explanation by the man that the woman is his flesh and bone.
- The word for “bone” is "Etsem" ( [[H6106]]). It occurs 126 times and means some form of bone in 99 of those.
### 2015.07.30 {16-17}
- In **Isaiah 55.2**, God again tells/commands the Israelites to eat freely.
### 2015.06.10 {1-3}
- Genesis 2.1 says, “The heavens and the earth were “completed” … and Genesis 2.2, says, “By the seventh day God “finished” the work ...
- In both cases, the Hebrew word is kalah ([[H3615]]).
- The definition in the NET is:
- to accomplish, cease, consume, determine, end, fail, finish, be complete, be accomplished, be ended, be at an end, be finished, be spent
- Qal
- to be complete, be at an end
- to be completed, be finished
- to be accomplished, be fulfilled
- to be determined, be plotted (bad sense)
- to be spent, be used up
- to waste away, be exhausted, fail
- to come to an end, vanish, perish, be destroyed
- Piel
- to complete, bring to an end, finish
- to complete (a period of time)
- to finish (doing a thing)
- to make an end, end
- to accomplish, fulfill, bring to pass
- to accomplish, determine (in thought)
- to put an end to, cause to cease
- to cause to fail, exhaust, use up, spend
- to destroy, exterminate
- Pual
- to be finished, be ended, be completed
- What I found surprising is how many of the 204 occurrences in the NASB are rather negative. These include:
- finished (67), finish (6), finishes (1)
- consumed (16), consume (6)
- destroy (10), destroyed (4), destroyed them all (1), destroys (1), destruction (1)
- fail (10), fails (2), failed (1)
- come to an end (5), end (4), ended (3), ending (1)
- complete (1), completed (10), completely gone (1), completion (1),
- spent (5), spend (3)
- decided (3)
- accomplish (2), accomplished (1), annihilate (1), annihilated (2), been consumed (2), been spent (1), brings to pass (1), brought (1), came to an end (1), ceased (1), demolish (1), determined (1), devoured (1), died (1), exhausted (2), exterminated (1), faints (1), feed (1), fulfill (2), languish (1), languishes (1), longed (1), make an end (1), over (1), perish (1), perishing (1), plotted (1), put an end (2), ravage (1), settled (1), terminate (1), use (1), used (1), vanish (2), vanishes (1), waste away (1), wastes away (1), yearned (1).
- A few years ago, I asked David how he knew when a painting or musical piece was complete. I don’t think he had an answer. Even recently, he brought up the question. I guess he has wrestled with it since I asked it.
- However, it definitely seems that Moses intended to communicate that God was done creating. At least in Moses’ view, there was no more tweaking the design.
### 2014.03.25 {7}
- This verse in conjunction with Genesis 2:15 strongly implies that God formed Adam as an adult, or at least someone old enough to take care of the garden and procreate. He wasn't formed as a single cell organism that eventually grew into an adult such as we do today.
- Different observation - God formed the man from dirt, then breathed into him his spirit. The body was formed first, then God gave the spirit. Adam was physical first. He wasn't a spirit being first. If this story applies to the rest of us, then we are first a physical being and then at some point in time the spirit joins the body. This has immense implications about when does "life" begin and other areas.
- [[777]] - Lord, please speak to me about the body-spirit stuff above.
### 2013.11.28 {7}
- I can't find anywhere in scripture that says our spirit died in the garden.
- I know that is what is taught in many places, but I need someone to explain it from scripture.
### 2012.11.08 {7}
- God breathed into us the breath of life.
- Based on the notes, this is much more than oxygen. It is God's Spirit. It is what makes us different than all other creatures. It is what died after rejecting God's command and eating the forbidden fruit.
### 2012.05.15 {9}
- Why did A&E never eat from the Tree of Life, or did they? In the original plan, did "life" require eating from the tree everyday, or was it a one-time thing?
- Now, Jesus is the tree of life. On one hand, we only need to "eat" from His tree once to be "saved". However, to really live, we need to eat continually. We need to be connected to the vine [[John 15:1-8](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ms5IvlzMu_RjR8sFCOIRgwrGWbvew9gnyKbD7g8krgU/edit#bookmark=id.5xxeh82eg404)].
- I am convinced that we must connect with God continuously and eat from the tree of life continually.
- [[777]] - Lord, I ask for forgiveness for all the times I act without checking with you.
### 2012.05.06 {24}
- See NT note on [Matthew 19:5-6](https://docs.google.com/document/d/11TgJnB0RIPC9hzVrAQQhNAP1aEk-XPw4G6L30p5cN6g/edit#bookmark=id.49lmkgsfqseh).
### 2011.06.19 {16-17}
- God [[Creator|created]] us with appetites. He told [[Adam]] he could freely eat from every [[tree]] except the forbidden one. The literal translation is that he could eat to his [[Heart|heart's]] content. In particular, Adam could eat freely from the [[Tree_of_Life|tree of life]].
- Appetites are God given! The [[sin]] is when we allow our good appetites to go after things that are not allowed by God.
### 2011.06.01 {3}
- Unlike the previous 6 days of creation where the bible says, "there was evening and there was morning, a xx day", there is no such statement after the seventh day. The Bible says that God ceased all the work He had been doing "in creation". It does not say that He is no longer working. It just says that He isn't working in creation anymore.
- We assume that He is still at work in His kingdom and in our lives. I am sure there are other verses that say that elsewhere.
- Since it says that He ceased His work in creation and also fails to talk about the dawn of the eighth day, it is safe to assume that He ceased is work in creation. This strongly implies that He was/is done with creation. Everything that was/is/is to be, was already created by the end of the sixth day. This helps to disprove the progressive creation theory. All the "new" discoveries that happen on a regular basis were created by the end of the sixth day. Apparently, they have been hidden from our discovery for all these years, but nevertheless, they were always there.
### 2011.05.23 {16-17}
- God is [[life]]. Anything without God is not life is [[Die|death]]. God told [[Adam]], that he could choose to [[obey]] God, or he could choose to disobey God. When Adam chose to disobey, he chose to be independent of God. He chose to exist without God. By the definition of life, he chose death.
- In my mind, this helps to explain why Adam and Eve did not physically die the second they took the bite from the forbidden [[fruit]]. It is a misunderstanding of what "life" really means. We often think that life is when our [[Heart|hearts]] are beating. However, scripture says that we are born dead. How can that be, if our hearts are beating? It is because we are born with the [[curse]] of Adam. We are born separated from God.
### 2011.05.22 {25}
- This is a foundational passage. See my note on [[Genesis_01_Notes#2011.05.22 {26-27}|Genesis 1.27]].
### 2011.03.01 {16-17}
- God gave Adam (us) a command. Really a very simple command. He (we) could eat anything we wanted, but not fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
- Although there may be incredible significance in the name of the tree, there is a much more basic and simple lesson here.
- God created this whole scheme so we would have to depend on Him for everything. Satan is so deceiving and we are so gullible, that the only way we can avoid eating the forbidden fruit is to depend on God every second of our lives. We have no hope of success without God. On the other hand we have full assurance of success with God.
