# Be Ready - Saturday, 2025.12.06 Put yourself in Joseph's shoes (or sandals) First you learn that somehow your wife / betrothed / fiance (each of the various social media platforms have different options) got preggers. You know for absolute certain that you had nothing to do with it. So, what are you going to do? According to Jewish law, Mary along with the "father" must be stoned to death! {Matthew 1.18, Deuteronomy 22.23-24} But, since Matthew said you are "righteous," you decide the best course of action (COA for military people) is to "quietly" divorce her. {Matthew 1.18} Despite the "righteousness" label, you figure a night on the town with your buds will help you move on and find a different wife. So, you head out to the bar with the guys, down a whole pizza covered with garlic (BLOG from my friend Tugg) and a couple of pitchers of beer. Later, your friends carry you home and toss you onto the bed to sleep it off. {BTW, none of this paragraph is in the Bible!!} Then, when you are half awake, still half drunk and half asleep (adds up to more than a whole), you have the wildest dream. Some dude with wings tells you to go ahead and marry Mary because this entity called "Holy Spirit" is the father and not only that, but you are supposed to name the kid "Jesus." Even more outlandish is that this kid will someday save His people from their sins!" (BTW, angels DON'T HAVE WINGS!! They are mighty warriors!) {Matthew 1.18-21} What a wild dream! Was it really an "angel of the Lord" or was it that pizza with all that garlic? Since Matthew said that you are righteous, I suppose you will do the "right" thing. Me? ... I doubt I am that "righteous." God has a lot of work to do in me. However, I am confident that He will finish the work He started. {Philippians 1.6} ### Passage This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly. But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” {Matthew 1.18-21 (BSB)}
