## Notes
- 2025.04.27 {13} ^47d919
- It is interesting to see how my views change over time. This note is about what I wrote on 2011.09.06 ([[#^0ca80f]]) and 2015.08.11 ([[#^1aee42]])
- All believers including me are part of the church
- We are commanded via Paul to judge those inside the church {1 Corinthians 5.1-13}
- So, to summarize what I believe today
- It is proper / commanded to judge those inside the church that are behaving in ways that are unholy
- An individual local church group or even an international denomination are not "the church"
- "The Church" is ALL believers; both living and dead
- There are enough warnings / exhortations / commands to be holy and to persevere that I believe Jesus wants US to do our part to be a pure bride for Him
- 2014.02.08 {3, 10} ^3b07ce
- Jesus promises the "[[Kingdom]] of [[Heaven]]" to "the poor in spirit" (5.3) and to "those who are [[Persecution|persecuted]] for [[Righteousness]]" (5.10).
- "Kingdom" is ([[G0932]]) in both cases.
- Analysis
- Speaker - Jesus
- Audience - His [[Disciple|disciples]] and crowds on the [[Mountain]] side
- Message - Beatitudes. To whom does the kingdom of heaven belong
- 2012.05.02 {3-9} ^165623
- This passage provides the positive opposites to the abominations listed in [[Proverbs_06|Proverbs 6.16-19]].
- The NET note on Proverbs 6.19 discussing these is shown here:
- These [[Seven]] things the [[Lord]] hates. To discover what the Lord [[Desire|desires]], one need only list the opposites: [[Humility]], [[Truth|truthful ]]speech, [[Persevere|preservation]] of [[Life]], [[pure]] thoughts, eagerness to do [[Good]], honest [[Witness|witnesses]], and [[Peace|peaceful]] harmony. In the NT the Beatitudes present the positive opposites (). It has seven blessed things to match these seven hated things; moreover, the first contrasts with the first here (“poor in spirit” of 5.5 with “haughty eyes”), and the seventh (“peacemakers” of 5.9) contrasts with the seventh here (“sows dissension”).
- 2015.08.14 {14-16} ^5bad2a
- Although I can’t think of anything that would disprove the position presented here on 2012.04.22, I currently think [[Jesus]] is the [[Light]] in our lives. It is all about Him. Consequently, this passage is [[Naked|nudity]] agnostic. Everything is about Jesus!
- 2015.08.11 {13} ^1aee42
- I reread this tonight. Over the last year, [[Name_Key#^nk-63|M]] has emphasized the importance of NOT trashing the [[Bride]]. I think [[Name_Key#^nk-64|M]] is communicating that if Jesus wants to criticize His Bride in Revelation, that is His prerogative. However, we don’t have that right.
- My own feeling is that I can talk with Jesus about His Bride. But if I talk with others about His Bride, I am [[gossiping]].
- 2012.04.22 {14-16} ^a5f875
- Since Jesus is [[Light]], it would seem that He is the light shining through us. One could argue that [[Clothing_Textile_People|clothing]] doesn't matter one way or the other and I can't think of any passages that would justify a particular position. On the other hand, in the beginning, we were [[Creation|created]] in His [[Image]] and we were [[Naked]] and ([[NAU]]) and [[God]] said that it was very [[Good]]. Nowhere in [[Scripture]] after that does it say that He changed His [[Mind]]. So ... it would seem logical that by putting on clothing to "hide" His image we are "hiding" the light.
- 777 - [[Lord]], if this is from you, please show me the complete logic trail and give me the words to put on paper.
- 2011.09.06 {13} ^0ca80f
- The NKJV translates this passage differently than the others and the verse makes more sense that way. Using the "logic" of the NKJV, the NET would read:
- You are the [[salt]] of the [[Earth]]. But if you lose your saltiness, how can the earth be seasoned? You are no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled on by [[People_in_General|people]].
- I think it is also possible to substitute the "[[Church]]" for the people "you". In this case it would read:
- The Church is the salt of the earth. But if the Church loses its saltiness, how can the earth be seasoned? The Church is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.
- In looking at the seven letters to the seven churches in Revelation, I think it is possible to see that the Church is no longer salty and will be thrown out.
- [[777]] - Lord, I [[Pray]] for Your church [[Body]], your bride. Please heal us.
- 2011.08.30 {14-16} ^8ba0ec
- The NLT implies that it is the deeds that shine out for all to see. The MSG is confusing and I don't see how he got what he got.
- However, eight other translations imply that it is by shining our light, that it enables people to see our [[Good_Works|good deeds]] and then they can give [[Honor]] to [[God]]. Our light seems to be separate from our good deeds and seems to be some sort of enabler.
- I would like to think that one aspect of our "light" is our naked bodies which are the image of God. However, I don't have enough evidence to support that position. Matthew quoted Jesus saying, we are the "light of the world" in **verse 14**. That is probably a clue about what all this means.
- 777 - Lord, what is our "light"?
- 2014.02.08 {17-20} ^179cc6
- Jesus is teaching about the [[Law]] and the [[Prophet|prophets]]. He eventually ties His [[Teach|teaching]] to the "kingdom of heaven". He uses that phrase three times in **verses 19-20**.
- In all three cases kingdom is ([[G0932]]).
- Analysis
- Speaker - Jesus
- Audience - His [[Disciple|disciples]] and crowds on the [[Mountain]] side
- Message - See above
- 2012.03.02 {27-30} ^97219b
- Jesus makes it clear that it is [[Lust]] or [[Desire]] in a [[Man|man's]] [[Heart]] that causes [[Sin]]. Nowhere in this passage does it say that it is the woman's appearance that causes the sin.
- Jesus goes on to say that the man should consider drastic measures to deal with his lust. Again, neither of Jesus' "suggestions" / "commands" require a woman to change her appearance. Both of them deal with the man's body.
- 777 - Lord, I don't understand this passage. If the root problem is the man's heart, then why would you have us tear out an [[Eye]] or cut off a [[Hand]]?
- 2012.02.18 {27-30} ^a2a966
- In this passage, Jesus clearly puts the responsibility for lust on the man. Nowhere in here does Jesus imply or state that the woman must cover her body. On the other hand, Jesus directs the man to take extreme measures on his own body.
- However, based on other verses, Jesus makes it clear the real issue is the man's heart, not his eye or hand.
- 2011.07.04 {31-32} ^ae9f86
- This is the first time I understood that when I [[Divorce|divorced]] Christy, I caused her to commit [[Adultery]]. The Message says it well, "If you divorce your wife, you're responsible for making her an adulteress ...".
- I have asked God to [[Forgive]] me and I thank Him for His [[Grace]] and [[Mercy]].
- 2011.12.31 {40} ^b0bab8
- In this passage, Jesus is teaching about not retaliating against those that attack us. One of the examples He gives has to do with clothing. If my understanding is correct about the types of clothing typically worn during that period, He essentially said that if someone wants to sue me and take some of my clothes, I should go ahead and give him all my clothes. This would fit the pattern of turning the other cheek.
- Assuming my assumptions are true, then Jesus is essentially saying, don't retaliate and don't worry about being naked.
- If being naked was a sin, I can't imagine that Jesus would teach us to be naked. So, I don't think He is [[Command|commanding]] us to be naked, but I do think that He is implying that nudity is not the issue. It is our heart and how we deal with conflict.
