## Part 1 - Salvation Through Grace From Father
### tl;dr
It is only through the overflow of grace from God through Jesus that we are saved! {John 1.14-15}
## Context
### Book {John}
- The fourth gospel in the NT, but not a synoptic version like the other three
### Chapter {John 1}
- The Berean Study Bible divided this 1st chapter into the following sections:
- The Beginning {1-5}
- The Witness of John {6-13}
- The Word Became Flesh {14-18}
- The Mission of John the Baptist {19-28}
- Jesus the Lamb of God {29-34}
- The First Disciples {35-42}
- Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael {43-51}
### This Section
- This section is about the Word / Light (John the Baptist proclaimed the Light in the previous section) becoming flesh and living among us.
## Observations
- The "Word" became flesh {14}
- The fleshly Word lived here {14}
- The Word and "only Son" are synonymous {14}
- John the Apostle & others saw Jesus' glory {14}
- Jesus is the only begotten Son {14}
- Jesus was full of grace and truth {14}
- Jesus surpassed John because Jesus existed before John {15}
- From Jesus fullness (of grace) we all received grace upon grace {15}
## Questions
- What does "The Word became flesh" mean?
- What does "who is Himself God" mean?
## Interpretation
- An interesting way to look at Christian "salvation"
- Paul said in Ephesians 2.8-9
> For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
- John said that Jesus was "full of grace and truth" {John 1.14}
- A couple of verses later, John said, "From His fullness (or overflow) we have all received grace upon grace"
- So, the grace we receive comes from the overflow of grace from Father through Jesus
- tl;dr
- It is only through the overflow of grace from God through Jesus that we are saved! {14-15}
## Application
- Spend time worshiping Father and praising and thanking Him for the grace He gave me and continues to pour on me.
## Correction
- As always, I am open to scripture-based correction.
