# Be Ready - Tuesday, 2025.12.16 ## Wilderness John, son of Zechariah was born to very old parents. There is nothing in the Bible about how old John was when his parents died, but Luke 1.80 says that John lived in the wilderness until it was time to start his public ministry. There is definitely something to a God ordained wilderness experience. It seems God uses it to prepare us for the next season of serving Him. Generally, the time in the wilderness is not pleasant; some more than others. See the examples below for details on how God prepared a few of His servants. There are many many more examples in the Bible and many / most of us have "wilderness" stories. Arguably, Adam's initial time in the Garden of Eden could be considered the first ever wilderness experience for any human {Genesis 2.7-25} - God placed Adam in the garden all by himself - The Bible doesn't indicate how long he was there by himself, but it was long enough for God to notice that Adam needed "a suitable helper" - God initially gave all the creatures to Adam, but they were not a suitable helper, so God gave Eve to Adam. - It could be said that Adam's second wilderness experience started in Genesis 3.23 and is still going on today for the rest of mankind Saul pursued David to kill him. As a result, David fled for 10-15 years until Saul death. {1 Samuel 18-31} At the start of Jesus' ministry, He had a 40 day and 40 night wilderness experience. Unlike David's: {Matthew 4.1-11, Mark 1.12-13, Luke 4.1-13} - Jesus was led / driven into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit - Jesus was tempted by Satan himself - Jesus did not sin ## tl;dr It seems that in order to be used by God for His purposes, we humans need a wilderness experience. Most of the wilderness experiences in the Bible talk place outside in God's creation. ## So What!?! Father, I ask that You prepare me and those reading this post, prepare us to serve You! Father, I want as much from You as You are willing to give. So, I give You permission to drive me into the wilderness as You see fit. ## Response Hit the reply button and tell us your wilderness story! ## Prove me wrong (Using nothing but the Bible)
