## Question
The last two Christmases, I have asked the following question about Luke 1.41-45 without providing an answer: Who was the first to recognize Jesus as Lord as recorded in the Bible?
## Discussion
When Gabriel appeared to Joseph, the angel told him that Jesus will save His people from their sins, however, he did not mention Jesus being Lord. {Matthew 1.21}
During Mary's encounter with Gabriel, he told her several things about Jesus, but being "Lord" wasn't one of them. The things Gabriel said in Luke 1.29-36 were:
- He will be great {32}
- He will be called the Son of the Most High {32}
- The Lord God will give Him the throne of David {32}
- He will reign over the house of Jacob forever {32}
- His kingdom will never end {33}
- He called Him Holy One {35}
- He will be called the Son of God
As Mary entered the home of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth, Elizabeth's baby, John leaped in her womb. {38, 41, 43-45}
Then, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and asked Mary why the mother of Elizabeth's Lord would be visiting. {41, 43}
## tl;dr
In my opinion, as recorded in the Bible, John was the first to identify Jesus as Lord. Then, John was followed closely by his mother, Elizabeth.
## So What!?!
Today's post was meant as a theologically insignificant trivia question. The answer has NO bearing on a person's salvation. I hope questions such as this can be discussed with less energy than a conversation with your spouse about last night's dinner.
## Prove me wrong (using nothing but the Bible)
