# Be Ready - Tuesday, 2025.11.25 ## 25 - Bread Father, I messed up and passed over "bread!" It should have been the topic yesterday. Arguably, bread could be one of the more important words in this prayer. Not only is bread a staple of food around the world but Jesus is often identified as the "bread of life!" Jesus said about Himself / the bread of life: {John 6.48-51} - I am the bread of life {48} - This bread (Jesus) comes down from heaven, so that anyone may eat of it and not die {50} - He is the living bread that came down from heaven {51a} - If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever {51b} - this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh. {51c} Jesus continued in the next paragraph: {John 6.53-51} - unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you {53} - Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day {54} - My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink {55} Jesus wrapped up this topic in the next paragraph {John 6.56-58} - Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. {56} - Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me {57} - Again, this bread came down from heaven {58a} - Finally, unlike the Israelite fathers who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread (Jesus) will live forever.” {58b} I am reminded of a conversation between Adam and the Lord God before Eve came on the scene. - God had just placed Adam in the Garden of Eden and He gave Adam this command: - “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ... {Genesis 2.15-17a} - My conclusion from that conversation is that God is quite generous and wants us to enjoy His creation to the maximum extent possible ### tl;dr - We should ask the Father to give us bread each day - Bread could be the kind made from flour, or it could be Jesus - If the bread in this prayer is Jesus then: - Everyday, we need to ask the Father to give us Jesus, the bread of life - We need to freely eat the bread the Father gives us ### Passage So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ {Matthew 6.9-13 (BSB)}
