# End Times Summary in Matthew
## ToDo
- ToDo Study
- Start word study at Matthew 24.22
## Notes
1. All verse references are to [[Matthew_24|Matthew 24 (BSB)]] unless otherwise noted
2. Jesus' response to the disciples' questions about when will Jesus return and the [[The_End|end of the age]] is a long answer. Matthew recorded it in the rest of **chapter 24** and all of [[Matthew_25|chapter 25]]. Most of His answer related to this study on [[Be_Ready|Being Ready]]. [3]
3. Although Jesus mentions some signs, He says these are the beginning of birth pains. The signs He mentioned are: [4-8]
1. Many will come in the name of Christ claiming to be Him and they will deceive many [5]
2. [[War|Wars]] and rumors of wars [60]
3. Nation will rise against nation and [[Kingdom|kingdom]] against kingdom [7]
4. [[Famine|Famines]] and [[Earthquake|earthquakes]] [7]
4. More signs [9-12]
1. The [[Apostle|apostles]] (and maybe future disciples) because of Jesus' name will be: [9]
1. [[Persecution|persecuted]] and killed [9]
2. hated by all nations [9]
2. many will fall away and betray and hate each other [10]
3. many [[False_Prophet|false prophets]] will arise and mislead many [11]
4. Because of this multiplication of wickedness, the [[Love|love]] of most will grow cold [12]
5. Jesus offers three promises in the midst of a lot of bad stuff [13-14]
1. the one who [[Persevere|perseveres]] to the end will be saved [13]
2. the [[Kingdom|gospel of the kingdom]] will be preached in all the [[World|world]] as a testimony to all the [[Nation|nations]] [14]
3. then the end will come [14]
6. Based on [[Luke_21|Luke 21.20-24]], (I think other Jewish scholars agree) **verses 15-22** apply to the destruction of Jerusalem and has already occurred. [15-22]
7. In the next few paragraphs, Jesus talks about His return [23-35]
1. Jesus says to not believe or act on the false things people say about His return. Such things include:
1. Look, here is the Christ [23]
2. There He is [23]
3. He is in the wilderness [26]
4. He is in the inner rooms [26]
2. The reason for the warning is that: [24, 28]
1. false Christ and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect if that were possible [24]
2. Vultures gather wherever there is a carcass [28]
3. On the other hand, [[Jesus_Return|Jesus' return]] will be unmistakable:
1. Just as lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west [27]
2. ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Compare with: [29]
1.[[Isaiah_13| Isaiah 13:10]] [29]
2. [[Isaiah_34|Isaiah 34:4]] [29]
3. [[Joel_02|Joel 2:10]] [29]
3. At the time of Jesus' return: [30-31]
1. the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn [30]
2. We will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. Compare with [[Daniel_07|Daniel 7.13-14]] [30]
3. He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. [31]
4. Jesus summarized the signs of His return in the next paragraph:
1. Just like we can see from the fig tree that when branches become tender and sprout leaves, you know that summer is near. [32]
2. So, when we all these things, we know that He is near [33]
3. Next, Jesus said something I don't understand: "this [[TOPICS/TEMPORAL_TOPICS/Generations|generation]] will not pass away until all these things have happened." I don't know what He means by "this generation" [34]
4. Finally, he promises a couple of things: [35]
1. heaven and earth will pass away
2. His words will never pass away
8. The BSB says the [[Prophet|prophet]] Daniel described [[G2046]] the events in **verse 15** and the NASB says "which was spoken" [[G3004]]. [15]
