## Takeaways
- It is God / His Spirit that calls and directs His prophets
- Isaiah heard the Lord asking, "“Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” [Isaiah 6.8]
- Isaiah replied, “Here am I. Send me!” [Isaiah 6.8]
- Ezekiel said that the Spirit entered him and he heard Him speaking [Ezekiel 2.2]
- God told Ezekiel, "I am sending you to the Israelites" and he was to say to them, "This is what the Lord God says" [Ezekiel 2.3-4]
- The Spirit lifted Ezekiel up and took him away. [Ezekiel 3.12-14]
- Ezekiel went in bitterness and anger in his spirit with the strong hand of the Lord [Ezekiel 3.14]
- After this "pep talk" at the River Kebar, God's hand was again on Ezekiel and He told him to to out to the plain and there He would speak with him. [Ezekiel 3.22]
- Ezekiel obeyed God and encountered the "glory of the Lord". Ezekiel's response was to fall facedown [Ezekiel 3.23]
- After Ezekiel fell facedown, the Spirit entered him and set him on his feet [Ezekiel 3.3-24]
- Paul lists off several “gifts” saying that they are all given by the Spirit and appointed as He determines. Among the “gifts” Paul mentions is prophecy. [1 Corinthians 12.7-11]
- I feel like I am saying to God, "Here am I. Send me!" I am not sure if I got a response from Go that says, "Go" [Isaiah 6.8]
- Then God told Isaiah "Go tell this people" the following [Isaiah 6.9-10]
- Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.
- Compare with **Matthew 13.15** and **Mark 4.12** [Isaiah 6.9-10]
- The Hebrew LXX is different and changing the tone a lot for **Isaiah 6.9-10**
- The first phrase is "You will be ever hearing" instead of "Be ever hearing" [Isaiah 6.9]
- The first sentence of **verse 10** reads, "This people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes" instead of "Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes." [Isaiah 6.10]
- The ultimate outcome of hearing and seeing is to turn / return to God. Compare with [Repent, Believe, Obedience and Salvation Bible Study](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FPp6Cu2mkfnfIAr7ULs6iAVi9yX9m5wLsNQsCo2WhC0/edit#heading=h.8n3rcmctafh3 "https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FPp6Cu2mkfnfIAr7ULs6iAVi9yX9m5wLsNQsCo2WhC0/edit#heading=h.8n3rcmctafh3") [Isaiah 6.10]
- God has some negative things to say about false prophets [Jeremiah 23.9-40]
- God asks a couple of key questions: [Jeremiah 23.18]
- But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD to see and hear His word?
- Who has given heed to His word and obeyed it?
- This is the verse that really caught my attention: But if they had stood in My council, they would have proclaimed My words to My people and turned them back from their evil ways and evil deeds. [Jeremiah 23.22]
- Has God "sent" me? [Jeremiah 23.21]
- 2019.05.21
- I feel that **verse 22** is what God is calling me to do. Jeremiah 23.22
- Stand in His council
- Proclaim His words to His people
- Turn them back from their evil ways and deeds
- God said it was OK to retell a dream as long as it is told in context [Jeremiah 23.28]
- On the other hand, for those who have His word, we should speak truthfully. His word is like a fire and like a hammer that smashes a rock. [Jeremiah 23.28-29]
- In comparing a "dream" with God's word, God asks a question, "What is chaff compared with the wheat?" Obviously, the chaff gets burned up or turned into mulch whereas the wheat is eaten or planted for more wheat. I couldn't understand the BSB translation, "For what is straw compared to grain?" {Jeremiah 23.28}
- There are consequences for declaring, "This is the oracle of the Lord" [Jeremiah 23.38-40]
- God will forget me
- God will cast me from His presence
- God will cast the city He has given to His people from His presence
- He will bring everlasting shame and perpetual humiliation that will never be forgotten
- At the end of the seven days, God spoke again saying, "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me." [Ezekiel 3.17]
- God warned Ezekiel that as Israel's watchman, he would be held responsible for his actions. [Ezekiel 3.18-21]
- The purpose of the warning Ezekiel was to give to the wicked was "to save his life" [Ezekiel 3.18]
- The phrase "I will hold you responsible" comes from two Hebrew words: "I will require" ([[H1245]]) and "at your hand" ([[H3027]]) [Ezekiel 3.18, 20]
- Other translations for "responsible" in **verses 18 & 20** [Ezekiel 3.18, 20]
- Accountable (NIV, NET)
- Responsible (NLT, BSB, CSB)
- Require at your hand (ESV, NASB, KJV, WEB)
- The life of a prophet is crazy. It would seem that the purpose of going to the Kebar river and then to the plain was to test Ezekiel's obedience. [Ezekiel 3.15, 22]
- Jesus warns of false prophets who come as soft furry dumb sheep, but really are ravenous wolves [Matthew 7.15]
- It is interesting that the false prophets are "clothed" in sheep's clothing. Elsewhere in the Bible, "good clothing" are Biblical characteristics [Matthew 7.15]
- Two of the scariest verses in the Bible is where people will say to Jesus on judgement day that they prophesied in His name, and in His name drove out demons and performed many miracles. However, Jesus responded by saying, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!" [Matthew 7.22-23]
- When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables: [Matthew 13.11-17]
- First, Jesus told them that the knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven had been given to them [Matthew 13.11]
- Then, He repeated a phrase the He said several times, everyone that has, will get more, but those who don't have, will lose even what they have [Matthew 13.12]
- Next, He paraphrased a passage from **Isaiah 6.9-10**, then He quoted it. The paraphrase is: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ [Matthew 13.13-15]
- He wraps up this section by telling the disciples that they are blessed. Many prophets and righteous men longed to see and hear what they are getting to experience. [Matthew 13.16-17]
- I am speculating that helping people really see and understand ([[G4920]]) is a role of a prophet. [Matthew 13.10-17]
- When his homies rejected Him, Jesus said, "Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor.” [Matthew 13.57]
- Jesus implied that outside a prophet's hometown and own household, it was "normal" for a prophet to receive honor [Matthew 13.57]
- Jesus' initial response to the questions about when the temple will be destroyed and what is the sign of His coming is to not be deceived, because many will come in His name [Matthew 24.4-5]
- He goes on to say that many false prophets will arise and lead may astray [Matthew 24.11]
- Later He says something similar, "false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible." [Matthew 24.24]
- Paul talks about how there are different gifts / ministries / ways of working, but there is only one Spirit / Lord / God [1 Corinthians 12.4-6]. As he transitions into a discussion about specific spiritual gifts, he starts it with saying that the “manifestations” are given for the common good [1 Corinthians 12.7]
- Not really sure what is the difference between “prophecy”, “message of wisdom” and “message of knowledge” [1 Corinthians 12.8]
- Interestingly, Paul lists off several gifts / positions as they apply to the church in an order: Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, others. Interestingly, shepherds are not mentioned in this list. [1 Corinthians 12.28]
- Paul expands his definition of “prophecy” to include “fathom all mysteries and knowledge” [1 Corinthians 13.2]
- Paul says that although love never fails, prophecies will cease. He goes on to say that we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes the partial will pass away. I think he is saying that today, we can only know so well and therefore only prophecy so well. However, when Jesus comes, there will be no need for prophecy because everyone will know everything perfectly. On the other hand, love exists now and will only grow stronger when Jesus comes. The Greek definition for cease / dismissed ([[G2673]]) would seem to support my thoughts in the previous sentence. [1 Corinthians 13.8-9]
- Various other translations for “edification” include: [1 Corinthians 14.3]
- Strengthening (NIV, NLT, NET)
- Upbuilding - ESV
- Help them grow - GWT
- Various other translations for “encouragement” include: [1 Corinthians 14.3]
- Exhortation - NASB, KJB, WEB
- Paul starts off the chapter by saying that we should earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. [1 Corinthians 14.1]
- He who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, encouragement and comfort as well as edifying the church [1 Corinthians 14.3-4]
- Paul said that he wished that everyone could speak in tongues, but … [1 Corinthians 14.5]
- He would rather they / we prophesy
- He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues
- Again, it all about edifying the church
- In this verse, Paul separates revelation, knowledge, teaching and prophecy from each other [1 Corinthians 14.6]
- Paul goes on to emphasize that we should strive to excel in gifts that build up the church [1 Corinthians 14.12]
- He also emphasizes the purpose of prophecy is so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged [1 Corinthians 14.31]
- Paul ended the paragraph by saying that the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets [1 Corinthians 14.32]
- Paul wraps up this chapter by saying that we should be eager to prophesy and that we should not forbid speaking in tongues [1 Corinthians 14.39]

- Context - I think this is about the lying prophets who kept people from leaving Jerusalem and going to Babylon per God's direction [9-40]
- God has some negative things to say about false prophets [9-40]
- Both prophet and priest are ungodly [11]
- The prophets of Samaria prophesied by Baal and led God's people astray [13]
- The prophets of Jerusalem: [14-15]
- Committed adultery and walked in lies.
- They strengthened the hands of evildoers so that no one turns his back on wickedness
- Ungodliness has spread throughout the land
- God says don't listen to the prophets: [16-17]
- They are filling you with false hope
- They speak visions from their own minds and not from the mouth of the Lord
- God asks a couple of key questions: [18]
- But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD to see and hear His word?
- Who has given heed to His word and obeyed it?
- I am not sure if the "understand it clearly" refers to: [20]
- God's word or His anger
- The purposes of His heart
- His word
- God says:
- I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message;
- I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.
- This is the verse that really caught my attention [22]
- But if they had stood in My council, they would have proclaimed My words to My people and turned them back from their evil ways and evil deeds.
- Has God "sent" me? [21]
- I feel that **verse 22** is what God is calling me to do. [22]
- Stand in His council
- Proclaim His words to His people
- Turn them back from their evil ways and deeds
- God continues to hammer the false prophets in the remaining verses [25-40]
- God next goes after prophets who have dreams and falsely claim the message is from God. He accuses them of making His people forget His name [25-27]
- God addressed the hearts of the prophets [26]
- Then He says that their prophecies are "delusions of their own minds. The Hebrew for "hearts" is the same as "mind" [26]
- God said it was ok to retell a dream as long as it is told in context. On the other hand, for those who have His word, we should speak truthfully. His word is like a fire and like a hammer that smashes a rock. [28-29]
- Other translations for "truthfully" [28]
- Faithfully (NIV, NLT, ESV, KJV, NET, WEB)
- Truthfully (BSB, NASB, CSB
- In comparing a "dream" with God's word, God asks a question, "What is chaff compared with the wheat?" Obviously, the chaff gets burned up or turned into mulch whereas the wheat is eaten or planted for more wheat. I couldn't understand the BSB translation, "For what is straw compared to grain?" [28]
- God accuses the prophets of even stealing lies from each other. There isn't a consensus on how to translate this verse. The NIV, NLT, BSB and NET seem to fit the context better than the others. [30]
- In three consecutive verses, God says, I am against … " [30, 31 & 32]
- There should be no confusion about God's thoughts about the false prophets. He keeps hitting them from many different angles. In particular, He says that He didn't send them or command them and they are of no benefit to the people. [31-32]
- God even refers to the false dreams as "reckless lies" [32]
- This next section is about false oracles [33-40]
- God says He will even punish a prophet's household for claiming, "This is the oracle of the LORD" [34]
- I am not exactly sure what an "oracle" is. There seems to be a difference between an oracle and what God "answered" or "spoke" [35-37]
- There are consequences for declaring, "This is the oracle of the Lord" [38-40]
- God will forget me
- God will cast me from His presence
- God will cast the city He has given to His people from His presence
- He will bring everlasting shame and perpetual humiliation that will never be forgotten

- They were a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Him [3]
- The current people as well as their fathers transgressed against Him [3]
- They are obstinate and hardhearted children [4]
- They are a rebellious house [5, 6, 8]
- They are rebellious [7]
- Even if they don't listen, they will know that a prophet has been among them [5]
- God told Ezekiel to not be afraid of the Israelites or their words, the briers, the thorns or scorpions. He acknowledged that Ezekiel dwelled among briers, thorns and scorpions. ??Is God talking about undesirable plants and insects or the Israelites?? [6]
- God told Ezekiel to:
- Speak His words whether they listen or not. [7]
- Don't be rebellious like Israel [8]
- Open his mouth and eat what He gives him [8]

- Context
- In the previous chapter, Ezekiel_2, God unrolled a scroll before Ezekiel. On it were written on the front and back words of lamentation, mourning and woe. Ezekiel 2.9-10
- Ezekiel eats the scroll and is then taken to the River Kebar [1-15]
- Ezekiel is appointed a watchman for the house of Israel [16-27]
- Ezekiel ate the scroll and "filled his stomach" with it. He said it was sweet as honey in his mouth [1-3]
- God told Ezekiel, "go now to the house of Israel and speak My words to them." [4]
- God provided some more info & instruction about the mission He was commanding Ezekiel to undertake
- The people he was to engage were not a people of unfamiliar speech or language, but rather the house of Israel [6-7]
- God knows Israel will be unwilling to listen to Ezekiel since they won't listen to Him. He goes on to say that the whole house of Israel is stubborn and obstinate. [7]
- It seems that "stubborn" is derived from two Hebrew words, ([[H2389]]) and ([[H4696]]). Other translations for "stubborn" [7]
- Hardened (NIV)
- Stubborn (NLT, BSB, BSB)
- Hard forehead (ESV)

- It seems that "obstinate" is derived from two Hebrew words ([[H7186]]) and ([[H3820]]). Other translations for "obstinate" [7]
- Obstinate (NIV, BSB, NASB)
- Hardhearted (NLT, KJV, CSB, NET, WEB)
- Stubborn heart (ESV)
- God says He will make Ezekiel's face and forehead as hard as theirs [8-9]
- God told Ezekiel, "Do not be afraid of them or dismayed at their presence [9]
- God told Ezekiel to listen carefully to all the words He speaks to him. Further, he was to "take them to heart" [10]
- In the phrase, "Go to your people", the Hebrew includes not only the "go" verb but an additional verb "get" The only translation that I usually use that included the "get" is KJV- "And go, get thee to them". [11]
- Whether they listen or not, Ezekiel was to speak to them what the Lord says [11]
- The Spirit lifted Ezekiel up and took him away. [12-14]
- Ezekiel went in bitterness and anger in his spirit with the strong hand of the Lord [14]
- When Ezekiel got to the River Kebar, he sat with them for seven days. It sounds like he sat there waiting for the next instruction. [15]
- At the end of the seven days, God spoke again saying, "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me." [17]
- God warned Ezekiel that as Israel's watchman, he would be held responsible for his actions. [18-21]
- The purpose of the warning Ezekiel was to give to the wicked was "to save his life" [18]
- The phrase "I will hold you responsible" comes from two Hebrew words: "I will require" (H1245) and "at your hand" (H3027) [18, 20]
- Other translations for "responsible" in verses 18 & 20 [18, 20]
- Accountable (NIV, NET)
- Responsible (NLT, BSB, CSB)
- Require at your hand (ESV, NASB, KJV, WEB)
- After this "pep talk" at the River Kebar, God's hand was again on Ezekiel and He told him to to out to the plain and there He would speak with him. [22]
- Ezekiel obeyed God and encountered the "glory of the Lord". Ezekiel's response was to fall facedown [23]
- The life of a prophet is crazy. It would seem that the purpose of going to the Kebar river and then to the plain was to test Ezekiel's obedience. [15, 22]
- After Ezekiel fell facedown, the Spirit entered him and set him on his feet [23-24]
- God told Ezekiel to go and shut himself inside his house. Then He continued His "pep-talk" [24-26]
- God told him that "they" will tie him up with ropes so he could not go out among the people [25]
- That his tongue would stick to the roof of his mouth and that he will be silent and unable to rebuke Israel. [26]
- After all this, God says to him, "when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you are to tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’ Whoever listens, let him listen; and whoever refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house." [27]

- Context
- This chapter is part of the sermon on the mount [0]
- As Jesus wraps up His teaching, He talks about how we can identify false prophets [15-23]
- Jesus warns of false prophets who come as soft furry dumb sheep, but really are ravenous wolves [15]
- It is interesting that the false prophets are "clothed" in sheep's clothing. Elsewhere in the Bible, "good clothing" are Biblical characteristics [15]
- Jesus said that we can recognize false / true prophets by their fruit [16-20]
- ?? What fruit am I bearing?? [16-20]
- Two of the scariest verses in the Bible is where people will say to Jesus on judgement day that they prophesied in His name, and in His name drove out demons and performed many miracles. However, Jesus responded by saying, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!" [22-23]
- It would seem that doing "good" stuff in Jesus' name is not what gets us into heaven.
- Jesus preceded these two verses by saying that only those who "do the will of His Father" will enter heaven. [21]
- The next section talks about the House on the Rock and is essentially saying that we need to put into practice the things that Jesus is saying we need to do. I am guessing that those things are all the stuff in the sermon on the mount. Since this section immediately follows the two scariest verses I think He used this story to help us understand what He meant about doing the will of His Father [21, 24-27]

- Jesus continued to teach in parables by the sea and even quoted scripture about parables [1, 24-35]
- Jesus finished teaching in parables [53]
- Jesus taught in His hometown. It isn't clear whether He taught in parables or plainly. Based on the comment about His wisdom it is possible He taught plainly. [54]
- Jesus quoted a verse in Psalm 78.2 saying that He would utter things hidden since the foundation of the world. [35]
- When his homies rejected Him, Jesus said, "Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor.” [57]
- Jesus implied that outside a prophet's hometown and own household, it was "normal" for a prophet to receive honor [57]

- When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables: [11-17]
- First, Jesus told them that the knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven had been given to them [11]
- Then, He repeated a phrase the He said several times, everyone that has, will get more, but those who don't have, will lose even what they have [12]
- Next, He paraphrase a passage from Isaiah 6.9-10, then He quoted it. The paraphrase is: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ [13-15]
- He wraps up this section by telling the disciples that they are blessed. Many prophets and righteous men longed to see and hear what they are getting to experience. [16-17]
- I am speculating that helping people really see and understand (G4920) is a role of a prophet. [10-17]
- The "seeing" that Jesus talks about is more than using their / our eyes. It also includes the spiritual realm. See the definition for (G0991). [13-x2, 16, 17]
- Similar to "seeing", "hearing" includes more than the ears. See (G0191). [13-x2, 15-x2, 16, 17-x2]
- According to Isaiah, the Jews' heart had grown callous. As a result, they hardly "hear" with their ears and they have closed their eyes. [15]
- It is God who would heal them if they saw, heard and understood. [15]

- Paul starts off his discussion about spiritual gifts by mentioning mute idols [2]
- He goes on to mention that no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit [3]
- Next, he talks about how there are different gifts / ministries / ways of working, but there is only one Spirit / Lord / God [4-6]
- As he transitions into a discussion about specific spiritual gifts, he starts it with saying that the “manifestations” are given for the common good [7]
- Not really sure what is the difference between “prophecy”, “message of wisdom” and “message of knowledge” [8]
- Paul lists off several “gifts” saying that they are all given by the Spirit and appointed as He determines. [7-11]
- Among the “gifts” Paul mentions is prophecy [10]
- After a few paragraphs comparing the human body and various gifts, Paul then brings those gifts into the church. [12-27]
- Interestingly, Paul lists off several gifts / positions as they apply to the church in an order: Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, others. Interestingly, shepherds are not mentioned in this list. [28]
- Paul wraps up this chapter by saying that we should all desire the greater gifts [31]

- Based on Paul's statement about prophecies ceasing in verse 8, the theory that the purpose of the prophetic gift is to connect the church with God makes sense. [8]
- 181209
- This is the famous chapter on love. [0]
- The Greek doesn’t refer to prophecy as a gift in this verse [2]
- Paul expands his definition of “prophecy” to include “fathom all mysteries and knowledge” [2]
- In the BSB version of this chapter, the following occurrences and rates are interesting: [0]
- Love - 9 (However, there only 8 occurrences in the Greek)
- Prophecy - 3
- Faith - 2
- Tongues - 2
- Knowledge - 2
- Hope(s) - 2
- Paul says that although love never fails, prophecies will cease. He goes on to say that we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes the partial will pass away. I think he is saying that today, we can only know so well and therefore only prophecy so well. However, when Jesus comes, there will be no need for prophecy because everyone will know everything perfectly. On the other hand, love exists now and will only grow stronger when Jesus comes. The Greek definition for cease / dismissed (G2673) would seem to support my thoughts in the previous sentence. [8-9]

- 181209
- This chapter is one of the main ones, if not the primary teaching on prophecy in the NT [0]
- Paul starts off the chapter by saying that we should earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. [1]
- He who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, encouragement and comfort as well as edifying the church [3-4]
- Paul said that he wished that everyone could speak in tongues, but … [5]
- He would rather they / we prophesy
- He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues
- Again, it all about edifying the church
- In this verse, Paul separates revelation, knowledge, teaching and prophecy from each other [6]
- Paul goes on to emphasize that we should strive to excel in gifts that build up the church [12]
- I don’t understand Paul’s logic in **verses 22-25**. [22-25]
- One possible explanation are the paragraph divides in the BSB. If **verse 22** belongs with **verses 20-21** and **verses 23-25** are a different paragraph with a related but different tact, then I can make some sense. However, I looked at many of the translations I typically use and many of them combine **20-25** into one paragraph or even put **verse 22** with **23-25**, separating out **20-21**. [20-25]
- The possible explanation I alluded to above is that through Isaiah, God condemned the Israelites for their unbelief and said that He would no longer speak to them in a way that they could understand, the truth would be hidden from them. If that interpretation is correct, then tongues would indeed be a sign to the unbelievers that they in fact are condemned since they don’t understand. Furthermore, prophecy would be a sign to believers since they do in fact understand. [20-22]
- In **verse 22** he says that tongues are for unbelievers and prophecy is for believers. Then, it seems that he explains his statement in the next few verses. In **verse 23** he talks about what would happen if everyone was speaking in tongues and an unbeliever came into the church -- they would think the whole church is crazy. Next in verses **24 & 25**, he says that if an unbeliever comes into a church with everyone prophesying, he will be convicted of his sin and will worship God. Bottomline, **verse 22** seems to be the opposite of **verses 23-25**. [22-25]
- In the next section, Paul talks about orderly worship [26-40]
- He says that everyone has a psalm, teaching, revelation, a tongue or an interpretation and that these must be done to build up the church [26]
- After a paragraph on orderly tongues, Paul addresses the rules of order for prophets. He says: [29-32]
- Two or three should speak and the others weigh carefully what is said [29]
- Although it seems that he is saying that everyone should take turns, he says that someone who is currently speaking should relinquish the “microphone” to someone who is seated. [30]
- Again, Paul emphasizes taking turns prophesying [31]
- He also emphasizes the purpose of prophecy is so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged [31]
- Paul ended the paragraph by saying that the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets [32]
- Paul makes a bold /?rash? statement that anyone who considers himself a prophet or spiritual person has to agree with him in all that he has written to include not allowing women to speak in church. [33-37]
- Paul wraps up this chapter by saying that we should be eager to prophesy and that we should not forbid speaking in tongues [39]

- Unity in the body [1-16]
- New life in the body [17-32]
- Paul said that Jesus gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for works of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ. [11-13]
- So the purpose of these five and in particular for this study is to build up the body of Christ [12]

- Some time since 2018, I downloaded some info from the Institute in Basic Life Principles on the "Spiritual Gift of Exhorting". At the time, I included it in the old "Exhort Encourage Admonish to Obedience Bible Study". Since I was referencing the info in this note several other places, I thought it should be a separate note: [[1518677416_Spiritual_Gift_of_Exhorting]]
